Loves Good Eye

from Inside Outside by Karen Hunter

about

Recorded live at the Temple bar, Queen St, Auckland, New Zealand in 1999.

lyrics

Sometimes in the darkness
there’s a shape so open
so wide I can’t see round it
so deep I cant walk through it
I hear the song of the siren calling
calling through the wind
calling through the rain
the darkness is calling me home again

survival is like a tiger
ever watching ever at the ready
the hunter inside each of us
is looking out for number one
I don’t need to kill to be here
I don’t need to do anything
three dimensional undeniable
living soul

tonight I’m being alive
just here with me
the seasons are changing
with them changes everything

sometimes I look to love
like I look to a drug
where is the one who will make me feel good?
distract me ,placate me
love herself looks back through her one good eye
and whispers
here we are child the two of us hand in hand
dancing and in combat ,hand in hand
to live and one day to die

the silence beckons and the phone don’t ring
the door don’t knock and the wind don’t sing
tomorrow keeps her mouth shut showing me her empty pages
I hear the voices that fill the quiet
I see the shapes that fill the darkness
I hear the echoes in the smallest of spaces
I see you in my minds eye
