money don’t rule the world my love can not be bought or stolen friendship can not be bought or stolen joy cannot be bought at any price the things I love are valuable like the pure note from the beautiful throat of a woman who was born to sing or like the rhythmic swing or the shuffling beat of a man with a song inside of him but money don’t rule the world money don’t rule the world life is more than survival will someone tell that to the government will someone tell that to the industries some one tell that to the power company that money don’t rule the world money don’t rule the world the things I need are important yes like a roof above and a meal a day well you might take those things away but you’ll not get my hope that way and you’ll not get my love that way what is the measure of life ? is it in your wallet ? do we live in spite of the earth or are we a part of it ? my love can not be bought or stolen friendship can not be bought or stolen joy cannot be bought at any price money don’t rule the world money don’t rule the world

Telephone 05:15
I am walking , talking, thinking, drinking, standing, pacing and listening Trying not to wait for your call It’s late, it’s night and I know the rate’s cheap, I should be asleep, I probably shouldn’t be thinking about you at all If life was different I wouldn’t be talking this way But that’s not the case What can I say? Last time we spoke, kissed, touched, held hands in the rain We promised each other no pain, no expectations, no responsibilities Our lips touched goodbye, neither party cried, just turned and walked head high with maybe just a smile to celebrate Cause wasn’t it great? To make love all night on Tuesday Play in the city on Wednesday Go our own way on Thursday but oh When Friday came When Saturday came around Came Sunday, Monday, Tuesday tell me now What did I do with all those promises I made to myself? I was going to keep that love all to myself What is this emptiness inside of me That’s trying to tell me if you called it would go away? I ain’t gonna let it happen that I loose my feet my head and my heart for the first thing that’s sweet, melts like honey in my mouth except better, And I know I have a right to the pleasures of the flesh but I owe it to myself to keep my head above the water, not to drown There ain’t no such thing as drowning in love You can only lose yourself in desire One half of me is falling but the other half is standing tall With the knowledge there is sweat and sour in the fire You are welcome to call, phone, write, drop in, send a psychic message, send a stand in, my heart is open, you know you turn me on there’s no loss to you if I don’t call back I’ve made my share of calls if you’re gonna ring back it’s up to you, there’s nothing more that I am going to do I’m learning tonight to spend this love on myself I looked at the phone but I picked up my guitar instead Strength don’t come easy and I’ve got a lot to unlearn But this is the best place to begin

Sometimes in the darkness there’s a shape so open so wide I can’t see round it so deep I cant walk through it I hear the song of the siren calling calling through the wind calling through the rain the darkness is calling me home again survival is like a tiger ever watching ever at the ready the hunter inside each of us is looking out for number one I don’t need to kill to be here I don’t need to do anything three dimensional undeniable living soul tonight I’m being alive just here with me the seasons are changing with them changes everything sometimes I look to love like I look to a drug where is the one who will make me feel good? distract me ,placate me love herself looks back through her one good eye and whispers here we are child the two of us hand in hand dancing and in combat ,hand in hand to live and one day to die the silence beckons and the phone don’t ring the door don’t knock and the wind don’t sing tomorrow keeps her mouth shut showing me her empty pages I hear the voices that fill the quiet I see the shapes that fill the darkness I hear the echoes in the smallest of spaces I see you in my minds eye

Shadows 02:49
Inner city traffic lights, A baby in her arms She stands before me, Her eye (looks) right through me Sets off an alarm It was you, that baby had your face Wide-eyed innocence, hungry to taste All of life’s challenges So you live in the babies at the traffic lights You're getting smaller and smaller Soon you're out of sight Soon you might live in the kittens Then you might live in mice In the leaves in the petals in the particles of light My heart remembers you But my mind has long let go of wanting to So hold your dreams and sing your songs I can say thank you now that you're gone Here is my freedom song There are shadows, shadows of feelings Like there are shadows in light But here comes the sun Shining bright

Washing 04:09
I wandered along a lonely beach My mind was in the sky So rich and blue White and shiny pictures Heat breaks my mental image of you A green and grey wall Rises up 50 feet tall Covered in slime I can't scrape it off Look to the left ( all alone ) Look to the right ( don't look now you're on your own ) Running through the sand with a knife in my hand Grass like needles that cut my feet If I say it out loud will it go away? It's like thick red guilt, it feels so hard in my heart It feels so hard in my heart Washing it all away......

about

This collection of songs was originally released in 2000 to document the songs I was playing around New Zealand a couple of great Ovation guitars I had the pleasure of playing for a few years. Inside is primarily a solo guitar/voice showcase.

Originally released as a double album 'Inside Outside', for this internet release I have included the songs I feel are the strongest from this period of my career. If there are other songs you think should be included here please let me know.

There is a cool live broadcast video of this lineup here : www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5TyugAHR9M

And also a video of a solo performance with the Ovation Legend 1777 here : www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5HwN90jnhc
